Seasonal Handbag Buying Calendar 2026: When to Order Each Collection
Published: August 22, 2026 | 11 min read
The #1 question we get from new retailers: "When should I place my order?" The answer depends on the season you're buying for, your shipping method, and how much buffer you want. Get it wrong and you either miss the selling window entirely or pay 5x more for air freight. This calendar tells you exactly when to order, with the math to back it up.
The Full Timeline: Production + Freight + QC
Before diving into seasons, understand the total pipeline. From the day you confirm your order to the day boxes arrive at your warehouse, expect:
| Stage | Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sampling & approval | 5-7 days | Fast sampling program reduces to 3 days for rush |
| Production | 20-30 days | Depends on order size & complexity. 50-100 bags: 20 days. 500+: 30 days |
| QC & packing | 2-3 days | Includes production photos/video for your approval |
| Sea freight (US West) | 14-18 days | $0.80-1.50/kg |
| Sea freight (US East) | 25-30 days | Via Panama Canal |
| Sea freight (Europe) | 25-35 days | Rotterdam / Hamburg / Felixstowe |
| Customs + inland | 5-7 days | Includes ISF filing, customs clearance, truck to warehouse |
| TOTAL (sea, US West) | ~45-58 days | From order confirmation to warehouse |
| TOTAL (air freight) | ~12-20 days | $4-8/kg — 5x cost of sea |
Rule of thumb: Order 2.5 months before your selling start date. That gives you a 2-week buffer for delays, customs holds, or QC rejections.
Spring Collection (March-May Selling)
Spring is about fresh colors, lighter materials, and transitional pieces. Buyers look for pastels, whites, canvas, and lighter hardware.
Order by: Early December (ideally November)
Why: December order → production starts mid-December (some factories slow before CNY) → CNY closure late Jan/early Feb (2-3 weeks) → production completes mid-February → sea freight arrives early March. You start selling mid-March with a 2.5-month window.
If you miss the December window: Order in early January, use air freight. You'll pay $4-8/kg instead of $0.80-1.50/kg, adding $200-600 to a 100-bag order. Still doable if margins are 2.5-3x.
Key spring styles to order: Light crossbody bags, canvas totes, mini bags in blush/sage/cream, straw-look bags. See our crossbody collection and tote collection.
Summer Collection (June-August Selling)
Summer is peak bag-selling season — vacations, weddings, festivals. Demand for statement pieces, bright colors, and beach-ready bags peaks.
Order by: Mid-March
Why: Mid-March order → production 25 days → complete mid-April → sea freight 25-35 days → arrive mid-to-late May → listing/QC 1 week → start selling June 1st. Perfect timing.
Key summer styles: Straw/wicker-look totes, bright clutches, waterproof crossbody, mini bags for evenings out, beach-ready shoulder bags. Check our clutch collection for evening pieces.
Pro tip: Order 20-30% more than spring volume. Summer is 30-40% of annual bag revenue for most retailers. Don't stock out in July when you can't reorder (production + freight = 60+ days).
Fall Collection (September-November Selling)
Fall shifts to deeper colors, heavier materials (suede-look, dark PU), structured shapes, and back-to-work styles. This is the second-biggest selling season.
Order by: Early June
Why: June order → production 25-30 days → complete early July → sea freight 25-35 days → arrive early August → listing 1 week → start selling late August/September 1st.
Key fall styles: Structured top-handle bags, dark satchels, saddle bags in burgundy/forest/navy/black, suede-look crossbody, leather-look backpacks. See our full collections for inspiration.
Winter / Holiday Collection (December-February Selling)
Holiday season is the biggest revenue driver of the year. Gift-worthy packaging, festive colors, and party-ready clutches fly off shelves from Black Friday through Valentine's Day.
Order by: Early August (latest)
Why: August order → production 30 days (holiday rush, factories busy) → complete early September → sea freight 25-35 days → arrive early October → listing 2 weeks → ready for Black Friday (late November). You get 8 weeks of holiday selling.
If you order in September: You MUST use air freight ($4-8/kg). 100 bags at 0.5kg each = $200-400 in air freight alone. With 2.5-3x retail markup, it's still profitable but eats margins.
Key holiday styles: Sequin/metallic clutches, gift-set handbags, red/green/black party bags, mini crossbody for gifts, velvet-look evening bags. Check our clutch collection for party-ready options.
Pro tip: Order 40-50% more than fall volume. November-December alone can be 35-45% of annual revenue. Read our rush production for Christmas guide if you're late.

Chinese New Year: The Black Hole
Chinese New Year (CNY) is the single biggest disruption to your supply chain. Factories close for 2-3 weeks (sometimes 4 for smaller workshops). In 2026, CNY falls on February 17. Plan around it:
- Before CNY (January): Factories rush to finish orders. Quality may slip. Place orders by mid-December to ensure production completes before CNY closure.
- During CNY (Feb 10-28 approx.): No production, no shipping. Sea freight continues but no new containers are loaded.
- After CNY (March): Factories reopen with fresh capacity but take 1 week to ramp up. Workers may not all return immediately. Best time to start spring/summer production.
How to Use This Calendar
1. Mark your selling start dates — when do you want inventory in your warehouse?
2. Count backward 60 days (sea freight) or 20 days (air freight) from that date.
3. Subtract 5 days for sampling if it's a new product.
4. Subtract 7 days as buffer for delays.
5. That's your order date. Place it. Don't wait for "better pricing" — the savings from waiting are eaten by air freight costs.
