OEM Handbag Manufacturing: From Design to Delivery

Published July 15, 2026 · By Jinman Bags Team

Creating your own branded handbag line is one of the most profitable moves in fashion retail. With OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing), you get custom-designed bags made with your brand label — without the massive investment of owning a factory. This guide covers the entire OEM process from concept to delivery.

OEM vs ODM vs White Label: What's the Difference?

Understanding these three manufacturing models is crucial:

The OEM Process: Step by Step

Step 1: Design Concept (1-2 weeks)

Start with your design vision. You can provide: hand sketches, digital illustrations, reference photos of existing bags you'd like to modify, or a complete technical pack (tech pack) with measurements, materials, and construction details. The more detailed your input, the more accurate the sample will be.

Step 2: Material Sourcing (1-2 weeks)

Your manufacturer sources materials based on your specifications. Key decisions include:

Step 3: Sample Development (7-15 days)

The factory creates a proto sample for your review. This is where you check proportions, functionality, and overall look. Expect 1-3 rounds of revisions. Each revision takes 5-7 days. Don't rush this stage — getting the sample right saves expensive mistakes in bulk production.

Step 4: Pre-Production Sample (PP Sample)

Once the proto sample is approved, the factory creates a PP (pre-production) sample using the exact materials and methods that will be used in bulk. This is your final approval before mass production begins. Always approve the PP sample in writing.

Step 5: Bulk Production (25-45 days)

After PP sample approval and deposit payment, production begins. The process includes: material cutting, stitching, hardware attachment, edge painting, quality inspection, and packaging. A good manufacturer provides production photos and progress updates throughout.

Step 6: Quality Control & Shipping (5-10 days)

Final QC checks every bag for stitching, hardware function, material defects, and label accuracy. For large orders, consider hiring a third-party inspection service (SGS, Intertek, or TUV) to inspect before shipment. After QC, bags are packed and shipped via your chosen method.
