Customs rules, duties, and freight differ by destination. We publish a dedicated guide for each major market — useful if you import to any of these:
| Destination | Typical Duty | Sea Transit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA | ~9–20% (HTS 4202) | 25–35 days | Section 301 may apply |
| UK | ~3–4% + VAT | 30–40 days | Post-Brexit UK tariff |
| EU (DE/FR/ES) | ~3–4% + VAT | 30–40 days | CE / REACH relevant |
| GCC (UAE/SA) | ~5% (+5% VAT) | 15–25 days | SABER for Saudi Arabia |
| Japan / Korea | ~3–5% | 5–10 days (air) | Strict labeling |
For the Middle East specifically, see our GCC bag wholesale supply page and GCC import facts (duties, VAT, SABER, freight).

For in-stock designs from a Yiwu factory like Jinman, MOQ is 1 piece and one order can mix up to 5 styles. Custom OEM/ODM typically starts at 100 pieces. Much lower than the 500–1000 pieces traditional factories require.
Sampling: 3–7 days. Production: 7–15 days for in-stock styles, 20–35 days for custom. Shipping: 15–30 days by sea, 5–7 days by air, 3–7 days by express courier to most destinations.
Handbags commonly enter the US at about 9–20% (HTS 4202), the EU at about 3–4% + 20% if applicable, and the GCC at about 5% (up to 10% for leather by HS code) plus 5% VAT in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Always confirm the exact HS code with your freight forwarder.
Not always. Many buyers use the factory's shipping (FOB from Ningbo/Shanghai or DDP door-to-door). A forwarder helps once volumes grow or you need complex customs clearance, SABER (Saudi Arabia), or bonded warehousing.
Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, and certificate of origin. Jinman provides all export documents; Saudi Arabia may additionally require SABER conformity registration.

Most import problems are predictable. They cluster at the same three points: classification, documentation mismatch, and underestimating clearance time.
| Step | What happens | Typical duration | Where it stalls |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Confirm specification | Finalise materials, dimensions, quantity | Days | Late material changes |
| 2. Produce and approve sample | Prototype for your sign-off | 1-2 weeks | Indecision on revisions |
| 3. Bulk production and inspection | Manufacture to the signed PP sample | 4-6 weeks | Deposit or PP sign-off delay |
| 4. Freight | Sea or air under agreed Incoterm | Sea 18-35 days, air 5-8 days | Port congestion, peak season |
| 5. Clearance and delivery | Duty assessment, release, final leg | Days to weeks | Missing or inconsistent documents |
Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading or airway bill, certificate of origin where required, and any market-specific conformity certificate. The single most common cause of clearance delay is a mismatch between documents - a quantity or value that differs between invoice and packing list will be queried. We issue all shipping documents from one source so they reconcile by construction.
Duty is assessed on the declared customs value under the correct HS subheading, and in the US additional measures may apply depending on origin and product category. Model it before you price your retail range, not after - a duty line you did not budget for is the difference between a viable margin and a loss. We give you the subheading and materials declaration; your broker or forwarder confirms the applied rate for your country.
DDP if you want the lowest effort - we handle it to your door including duty. FOB is the common default once you have a forwarder you trust. EXW gives the most control and the most work.
Document mismatch. A quantity or value that differs between the commercial invoice and packing list will be queried. We issue all shipping documents from one source so they reconcile by construction.
Yes. Duty is assessed on declared value under the correct subheading, and additional measures may apply by origin and category. Model it before you set retail prices, not after - it is often the difference between a viable margin and a loss.
