Frequently asked questions

Should I visit a handbag factory before placing an order?

For orders under $2,000, a factory visit is not cost-effective — a video call tour and sample inspection are sufficient. For orders over $5,000 or if you plan a long-term supply relationship, visiting the factory is highly recommended. The visit reveals production capacity, quality systems, and whether they are a real factory or a trading company.

What is the difference between a factory and a trading company?

A factory owns production equipment (sewing machines, cutting tables) and directly employs workers on the production floor. A trading company is an intermediary with an office — they show you samples but outsource production to unknown workshops. Trading companies charge 10-30% markup and offer less quality control. A physical factory visit instantly reveals which one you are dealing with.

Can I do a video call instead of visiting in person?

Yes. A live video tour is a practical alternative to in-person visits. Ask the factory to walk you through the production floor (show running machines), the material warehouse (show labeled rolls), and the QC station. Request to see 5-10 finished bags from current production. A real factory accommodates this easily; a trading company will find excuses.

What are the red flags when visiting a bag factory in China?

Red flags include: machines not running during working hours (staged showroom), empty material warehouse, no QC area or reject bin, workers who cannot answer questions about materials, unwillingness to show the business license, address that is an office building, and production capacity claims that don't match the floor size.
