Bead Types & Application: Where the Cost Hides

• Glass seed beads (Czech / Japanese): the quality standard. Uniform, color-fast, and they catch light. Cheapest to buy but most expensive to apply because they're almost always hand-sewn.
• Bugle & fringe beads: used for tassel and fringe trims on boho styles — a strong festival look.
• Sequins & paillettes: machine-appliqué friendly, so far cheaper than beads; the workhorse of statement minis.
• Faux pearls & resin drops: common on bridal and evening clutches for a luxe, weighty feel.
• Application method: hand-sewn beads (thread-looped through each bead) outlast glue-set beads by an order of magnitude. Always ask the factory whether beadwork is hand-sewn, machine-stitched, or glued — glued beadwork is a return bomb.

Materials & Construction: Three Failure Points

• Bead loss. The #1 return reason. Caused by glue-set beads, weak thread, or skipped knots at row ends. Mitigate with hand-sewn beadwork and a locked stitch at every color change.
• Thread tension. Uneven tension puckers the base fabric and makes beadwork look amateur. Inspect the back of the panel — it should be as neat as the front.
• Lining & base. Beaded bags need a sturdy lining (often iron-on interfacing) so beads don't rub the liner thin; a reinforced base keeps the slouch structured.

Quality Control: The Bead-Shedding Test

1. Rub test: wrap packing tape around a finger, press and rub 20 strokes across the beadwork; any loosened bead is a batch red flag.
2. Pull test: tug individual fringe/beads at 1.5kg for 5 seconds — hand-sewn work should not release.
3. Back inspection: every knot locked; no glue blobs.
4. Color-fastness: rub a white cloth on wet beads; dye transfer means fading in the first rain.
